On March 2nd, 2008 the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society joined hands with the Hong Kong Chapter of World Glaucoma Day and the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong at a public event to enhance the awareness of eye diseases and in particular glaucoma, in Hong Kong. Held at the Atrium of the Grand Century Place in MongKok, the event comprised of public lectures, glaucoma screening and a press conference. Dr. Alvin Kwok, president of the Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society, and Dr. Clement Chan, president of the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong, officiated the opening ceremony. 4 public lectures given by Drs. Jimmy Lai, Clement Tham, Thomas Chiu and Dexter Leung were attended by over 300 citizens. A dozen of volunteer ophthalomologists assisted in screening over 100 citizens for their intraocular pressures and optic discs. TV artist Ms. Myolie Wu and Mr. Marty So added further publicity to the importance of eye disease screening at the press conference. The event ultimately received wide media coverage including newspapers, TV, radio and internet attention. The role of the ophthalmologist in screening eye diseases was further underscored through the slogan "提防眼疾要緊記,眼科醫生幫到你".

"醫" for Eye
The Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society was invited by the HKU Medical Society to participate in its annual health exhibition titled "醫" for Eye. The event was held on 20th-21st September at the Shatin Town Hall and 4th- 5th October at the Tuen Mun Town Hall. The event comprised of poster exhibitions related to a wide range of common ocular diseases as well as public lectures and general health screening. Dr. Alan Ng officiated at the opening ceremony on behalf of HKOS. The event, in particular the public lectures given the ophthalmologists, sparkled tremendous interest among the public in ocular health screening, diagnosis and management options. Overall, the exhibition was a great success in dissemination and exchange of knowledge to both medical students and to the public.
