The Hong Kong Ophthalmological Society (HKOS) was formed and registered on 16 August 1954 with Dr. Dansey Browning as the first Chairman. The Society was established with the objectives to maintain and upgrade the quality of eye care in Hong Kong, and to foster brotherhood among eye care professionals serving the public in Hong Kong. Every year since 1989, the HKOS has organized the annual scientific meeting in ophthalmology, as well as other ad-hoc open lectures by internationally renowned speakers. This tradition has been carried on jointly with the establishment of the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong. In addition, the Society has strong links with other health-related associations and has supported many public health talks and vision screening programs. There are at present over 200 members registered with the Society.
