| Cornea Day 2014 The 'Cornea Day 2014' was successfully held on 18 May 2014. This event was jointly hosted by the COHK and the HKOS. It also serves as one of the main events to celebrate the respective 20th and 60th anniversaries of these organisations. This year, the aim of our public education activities is to increase awareness about corneal diseases and promote corneal donation in the general public. Prior to the event, we developed a survey in collaboration with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and sent it to over 1000 respondents to evaluate the public attitude towards corneal donation and knowledge about corneal diseases. We also asked for suggestions from the public for ways to improve the existing corneal donation campaigns and related promotional activities. More will be discussed in a separate section of this issue of Eye Opener. Results of the survey were released to the press on the day of the event, and were well received by the media. A series of 4 public educational lectures was presented by Dr Jeffrey Pong, Dr Alvin Young, Dr Arthur Cheng, and Ms Catherine Wong from the Hospital Authority Eye Bank on newest techniques of corneal graft operations and graft donation statistics in Hong Kong. Ms Candy Chea, Prof Sophia Chan, Prof Chi-Yan Leong, Prof Albert Lee, Dr Raymond Lo, Ms Christina Ko and Ms Catherine Wong were our guests of honour for this memorable event. Patients who were recipients of corneal grafts as well as donor family members attended the event and shared their experiences with the meaningful act of corneal donation with the attendees. The event was well acknowledged by the media, and received widespread television and media coverage. The event has, no doubt, made a positive impact on the public with regard to awareness of corneal diseases and corneal donation. A note of thanks was given to all members of the Organising Committee for their contribution, and credits also given to the numerous volunteers from different clusters, who gave their time and effort to ensure smooth running of the event.
